CONDITIONS FOR ESV MEMBERSHIP

  1. Eligible (natural persons): Citizens of the EU, an EEA country, of the UK, Switzerland, Vatican City, Monaco, San Marino, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, North Macedonia, Moldova, Ukraine and Turkey. Legal persons: Eligible if incorporated and having seat in one or more of the same group of countries. Note that restrictions may apply in respect of non-EU or non-EEA entities' participation in certain ESV activities including projects that ESV promotes.
  2. Only persons who accept the statutes, internal regulations and decisions of ESV's organs are admitted as members. Application signifies agreement to this condition, which includes a commitment to respecting and promoting ESV's purpose and objectives.
  3. Admission is not automatic. Each application is reviewed by the ESV Executive Secretary and Administrative Council. The ESV General Assembly is then the final arbiter upon admittance to membership. This process serves to ensure that the above eligibility -- including good-standing -- requirements are met at all times and that only persons genuinely committed to ESV's purpose and objectives are admitted. A statement of motivation is recommended with each application for membership.
  4. Pending acceptance by the ESV General Assembly, the Executive Secretary may permit an applicant to participate in certain ESV activities on a case-by-case basis and equally may ask for any applicant to provide proof of identity and eligibility of the natural or legal persons concerned as well as an explanation of the motivation for membership, including in light of any communication or material brought to the Executive Secretary's attention,
  5. GDPR: Each person making an application must consent expressly in writing for ESV and those it appoints as its processors to process the personal data related to the natural person concerned that ESV receives:
    • at the time of applying for ESV membership or afterwards in order to review the application and to make or review any decision made concerning it (Specific Purpose 1);
    • if the application is made by a legal person, in order to process it in accordance with Condition 5.a with respect to the natural person(s) who will represent the legal person or otherwise act on its behalf. That is, the legal person must before making the application have duly obtained the explicit consent of each such natural person (Specific Purpose 2);
    • to publish the names of the natural persons concerned whose personal data is received under Condition 5.a or b in the registers kept by ESV in physical and electronic form both in respect of accepted and rejected applications (Specific Purpose 3). Note: Recording rejected applications is necessary in order to avoid abuse of the application process;
    • to maintain contact with accepted members and in order to acknowledge the contributions of members within the scope of ESV activities including in the records of meetings, events and projects, including in cases where details of them are published in any medium (Specific Purpose 4), subject to any restrictions placed on ESV by its privacy policy or by law.
